Detective Jason Hudson has learned the hard way that forever and always don’t always work out. No longer able or willing to believe in Happily Ever After, he’s focused his life on two things: raising his son and doing his job. So when a woman from his past sets up shop in the small Indiana town he calls home, his only interest in her is finding out just what scheme has brought her back to town. That and protecting his family from her wiles.
I somehow missed that there were a bunch of books before this one when I began reading it but thankfully Haddix writes so well I don’t feel like it affected my ability to enjoy the story. Of course if you had then you’ll get a fuller story so it’s up to you especially since this is a long running series that wraps up into a fitting conclusion with this book.
Haddix wrote a great book that combines romance, drama, and mystery with a page turning story line you won’t want to put down. Her focus on family and relationships is well done with realistic portrayals.
Considering how great this book was I’m definitely going to go back and start at the beginning of this series. Haddix writes books that make you want to channel that Netflix binging talent into reading her series.
Thank you to Netgalley and Streetlight Graphics Publishing for allowing me to review this book.
